Domestic Violence

The topic for the June Resource Training was domestic violence. Pat from the Center for Women and Children in Crisis provided information about the Center as well as some information on domestic violence and sexual assault.

The purpose of the Center for Women and Children in Crisis is to provide a caring, advocating, safe, and educationally based environment for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. The Center provides shelter, food, hygiene items, clothing, group therapy and counseling, and case management for women and children that have been victims of domestic violence (both physical and emotional). Resources are also available for homeless women and children on a limited basis. The recently remodeled Center has 30 beds with kitchen and laundry facilities. A hotline is also manned 24 hours a day to assist those struggling with domestic violence issues. The Center is a United Way agency and has been in operation for over 20 years.

Additionally, the Center provides a 24 hour rape crisis hotline for those who have been a victim of sexual assault. When necessary, a rape crisis team will go to the hospital to be with a rape victim during a physical examination. The team will also provide support, information, and counseling to the victim.
