Charity Dental Clinic

A new charity dental clinic at the Food & Care Coalition has a new home and new hope. In partnership with the Share a Smile Foundation, free dental services had been offered once a month to about 8 to 10 needy clients in their dining room between meals. The two groups have now combined their resources to provide a new clinic in a building adjacent to the Coalition's main office which will now serve up to 75 persons each month.

At an open house attended by nearly 350 people, guests were treated to a tour of the new facility and the target population to be serviced by the clinic. Unique to most other clinics is the requirement that needy clients perform community service rather than a cash co-pay for services rendered in their behalf. This philosophical difference has gained widespread community support from the dental community and has instilled a sense of personal gratitude in clients that would otherwise be lacking.

Nearly 40 community dentists and students from Utah Valley State College and Brigham Young University are now involved in the project and is likely to grow as the program moves forward into the future.
