Groundbreaking

PROVO – Approximately 75 guests, including Provo Mayor Billings, Councilman George Stewart, President Wayne Ross of Arrowstar Construction, and other prominent community citizens attended the groundbreaking ceremony on July 1st, 2008 for the new Friends of the Coalition multi-purpose facility. Brent Crane, the agency’s executive director, expressed gratitude for the many hands making the new facility possible. Crane cited the many years of planning, research, and involved community participation, and acknowledged the well-spring of support from community donors who continue to improve the quality of life, hope, and dignity for the homeless and underprivileged served by the agency.

Wayne Ross, lead project contractor, added similar sentiments regarding the widespread involvement of Utah County. Ross credits the level of community dedication as one of the primary factors for his company’s involvement in the construction of the new facility. Councilman Stewart and Mayor Billings commended the Friends of the Coalition for their persistence and dedication in making the new facility come to fruition. Billings stated that Provo city was proud and honored to house such a unique and special project.

The new building is expected to be operational spring 2009 and will replace existing facilities. New programs and services will be offered, including transitional housing, educational programs, and work programs. Community partners, including Share a Smile Foundation and Wasatch Mental Health will add their services to enhance the agency’s outreach and provide quality assistance to those with dental care or mental health needs.
